Theft hinders Home Affairs' progress
Tue, 30 May 2006
Computerisation in the often vilified home affairs department is being slowed down by theft.
This emerged on Tuesday during debate on Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula's budget vote in the National Assembly.
She told MPs that of the 263 offices identified for computerisation in the 2005/06 financial year, 240 were completed.
"The department still continues to deal with the scourge of theft of equipment, and security requirements should always be fulfilled before computer equipment can be installed in offices.
"This has tended to affect the pace of installation," Mapisa-Nqakula said.
