Teacher held over theft

Jinja Road Police Station on Friday arrested and detained a teacher suspected of stealing school property. Mr Joseph Segawa, a former Director of Studies at Good Shepherd High School in Bweyogerere is accused of stealing school property worth Shs13 million.
Acting CID officer Moses Mutabingwa confirmed the arrest.

“We are investigating allegations that he stole school property by virtue of his position,” Mr Mutabingwa said. Mr Segawa is alleged to have stolen two computers, administrative documents, laboratory equipments, beds and mattress, among others. The itwms were valued at Shs13 million.

When paraded before the press, Mr Segawa denied the allegations. “I left that school (Good Shepherd) in September am just surprised to hear that I allegedly stole from there,” he said.

When contacted, the School’s Director, Mr Bartholomew Muramuzi said the alleged theft took place between January and September. Mr Muramuzi said he was able to identify two school doors from the accused’s house.
