Some Lehigh University students returned from spring break to find their off-campus rentals had been targeted by a vandalizing bandit.

Three residences were subjected to similar vandalism that involved splattered eggs, oil, syrup and sauce on walls and furniture. Two of the units also had ransacked bedrooms.

"The vandalism seems odd," Bethlehem Detective Sgt. William Dosedlo said. "That's weird."

Two women who reside in the 500 block of East Packer Avenue reported the perpetrator(s) took two laptop computers, a flat-screen TV, other electronics and $650. The thief also stole a set of car keys and a green 2002 Honda Accord with Massachusetts license plate 98HX15.

With Lafayette College's spring break set to take place later this month, Chief Public Safety Officer Hugh Harris recommends students take home all of their portable items.

Harris said not to leave flat-screen TVs, iPods, computers or other easy-to-take-and-sell items around while gone.

"Take valuable items with you," Harris said. "We recommend that for all breaks."
