Sophomore receivers Jody Ellis and Derrick McPhearson have been suspended indefinitely from Illinois’ football team after being arrested Saturday morning.

According to WCIA-TV in Champaign, Ellis and McPhearson were charged with possessing stolen property and obstructing justice.

After the pair were allegedly involved in an accident on campus,
police discovered laptop computers among several stolen items in their car.

Coach Ron Zook addressed the situation with a statement:

“Today, Jody and Derrick were charged with alleged criminal activity. Our players understand how to act appropriately. So in light of their behavior, both have been suspended indefinitely.”

McPhearson, who caught 14 passes for 86 yards in his first two seasons, was considered the crown jewel in Zook’s first recruiting class at Illinois.

Ellis, an Evanston native, owns 23 career catches for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns."
