Laptops, iPods stolen from Harwich Apple store
HARWICH – Around $30,000 worth of new Apple laptop computers and iPods were stolen Thursday evening from a store on Route 39, and a $1,000 reward is being offered by the store for information leading to the conviction of the culprit, according to the police and the store manager.
The Cape Mac store at 1421 Route 39 was likely broken into between 6 and 10 p.m. Thursday, store manager Michael McLaughlin said.
The two-employee store, which is an Apple Authorized Reseller, closed at 5:45 p.m. and McLaughlin reported the theft the next morning after finding the back door pried open, an alarm destroyed and phone wire disconnected, he said.
Twenty-six iPods and seven laptops were stolen, McLaughlin said. The products were insured and serial numbers have been given to the police and to Apple Computer Inc., he said.
“It’s kind of lame,” McLaughlin said. “We’re just concerned about catching the people who did that.”
The store has not been broken into before in his three and a half years at that location, he said.
The police are continuing to investigate the case with the assistance of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, according to Harwich police Lt. Thomas Gagnon.
A second Cape Mac store is located in East Falmouth.
