MOZAMBIQUE COMPUTER HARD DRIVES STOLEN FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCY allAfrica.com: Mozambique: Thieves Destroy Land Registers (Page 1 of 1)

Maputo

Thieves still at large broke into the offices of the Urban and Environment Municipal Directorate in Maputo and destroyed part of the computerised data base on land registry, stealing hard disks and memories where the information had been stored.

The theft took place during the night on Saturday, when the thieves, taking advantage of a moment of absence of the guards, broke one of the windows of the office where the computers were.

The Urban and Environment municipal councilor, Silva Magaia, is cited in Tuesday's issue of the daily 'Noticias' as saying that the thieves broke into the offices at a time when the municipal police guards had gone round to inspect another two buildings belonging to the same directorate.

He said that the stolen pieces contained important information about land concessions, the names of the owners, and all the data for the drawing of the maps. All these data were still being introduced into the computers.

But, although lamenting the loss of those equipments, Magaia said the work will continue, because that information had also been stored somewhere else and will be recovered.
