6 of the top 12 largest US school districts are now Absolute customers
VANCOUVER, Oct 21, 2004 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
Absolute Software (TSX VEN: ABT) - the leading provider of PC Theft Recovery and Secure Asset Tracking(TM) solutions, announces two additional key customer wins with two new customers
in the US education market that are expected to generate sales contracts between $400,000 and $550,000 in the current quarter, with substantial upside potential in future quarters. Due to the nature of Absolute's products, neither customer can be named at this time.
Educators are recognizing the benefits of mobile computing as a teaching platform in the school system and as a result laptops are now a standard in many classrooms. Although each school district faces different mobile computing challenges, nearly all operate on limited budgets. Schools cannot afford the risk of computer loss or unaccounted mobile assets. As demand for mobile computing grows, so does the accountability to protect, track, locate and recover missing mobile assets. Absolute Software ensures that schools can protect their mobile computer equipment through providing: a proven service to deter computer theft; a guaranteed theft recovery program; an asset tracking system to audit the whereabouts of state-funded assets; and a general security-layer to give students, faculty and parents peace of mind - all at an affordable price point.
Commenting on the effectiveness of Absolute's solutions, Steve Eisenberg, Director of Technology, Episcopal High School, an existing Absolute customer, stated: "Prior to Absolute Software, we were losing approximately 5 percent of our laptops per year. We had some problems with theft, but mostly we found that our students' machines were simply drifting from school to the houses of friends or relatives. We decided to internally publicize Absolute Software's Computrace(R) the first year it was installed and we found that our machine drift problem dropped by over 50%."
"The proliferation of mobile computing within school systems is fundamentally changing the way school districts manage students and their assets," said John Livingston, CEO of Absolute Software. "We are pleased to partner with many top US schools and districts to ensure the security and accountability of these mobile assets. Absolute Software has a proven track record of recovering missing computing assets for local school officials, teachers and students. Our technology enables IT departments to more safely deploy, manage and support these essential mobile computing learning platforms, in both private and public school systems."
