ILLINOIS COMPUTERS STOLE FROM SCHOOLKane County Chronicle - OnlineComputers stolen from Crystal Lake high school

CRYSTAL LAKE — Police are investigating a break-in at Prairie Ridge High School that occurred overnight Tuesday.

When staff entered the building early Wednesday, they noticed a broken window at the south end of the school, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Dave Linder said.

The thief or thieves stole equipment, including computers, from the faculty office, but staff have not yet completed an inventory of the missing items. Linder guessed that about 11 computers were stolen.
Teachers and administrators could not check their equipment before the holiday weekend because police spent most of the day Wednesday scouring the office, Principal Paul Humpa said.

Police have no suspects, Linder said.

Humpa was tight-lipped about information stored on the missing computers, citing security concerns and pointing out that a final inventory was not complete.

Humpa said that lost data would not affect the school's operations and that the rest of the computer system was secure.

"The impact will be minimal," Humpa said. "We have backups, and we have teachers that teach the same types of preps, and we've got the ability to work as a building team to help anyone who may have lost something."

There was "very little vandalism" during the robbery, Humpa said.

If you have any information, please call Crystal Lake police at (815) 459-2020.
