MICHIGAN COMPUTER STOLEN FROM CHURCHClickOnDetroit.com - News - Toilet Paper, CDs Stolen In Church Break-InsTwo churches in southwest Detroit are working to recover after robbers attacked overnight, Local 4 reported.

Southwest United Presbyterian church on Whittaker Street was among the churches that was hit. The church was also robbed on Sunday and twice last year.

CHURCH ROBBERIES

The perpetrators stole 500 rolls of toilet paper and several items from cabinets in the church's pantry.

"I don't understand why somebody would pick on a church that helps people like that," said Rick Melendez, a church parishioner.

The robbers also broke into the pastor's office and stole a computer and a tape recorder. A CD player was also reported missing.

"They're pretty low life. We've been struggling on this corner for a longtime trying to stay alive as a church and be a witness to the neighborhood," said Donna Hudson, a secretary at Southwest United.

Church of Christ of the Nations, which is approximately a half-mile away from Southwest United, was robbed of CDs and a CD player.

The robbers pried open the door at the church and smashed a window.

"It's not a good action, but I have to forgive them," said Rev. Luis Martinez.

A ceremonial sword that was taken from a pulpit was apparently dropped or left behind by the robbers.

Police would not confirm that the break-ins were connected.

No arrests have been made.
