AUSTRALIA COMPUTER STOLEN FROM RUGBY FACILITYThe Whitehaven NewsHAVEN CLOSE IN ON NEW AUSSIE SIGNING..

Steve McCormack is currently talking to the unnamed player, who has been highlighted by talent spotter Darren Mooney, who worked under the Haven boss when the pair were at Salford.

“Talks with the player are at an advanced stage, though, obviously, nothing has yet been signed,” McCormack said.

“Darren knows our requirements and has come up with a couple of names that are highly recommended.

“I’ve watched videos and we’re talking contracts with a player.

“Something may be sorted over the next couple of weeks.”

Haven already have one new Aussie coming over to the Recreation Ground in January, scrum-half Joel Penny, to replace Obst, who has joined Super League Wakefield.

But with McCormack expecting tougher competition next season than last term, Haven’s best for decades, when they reached the National League One Grand Final, he is still keen to strengthen in other areas.

The squad has been given tomorrow and Saturday off but are back in for a training session on Sunday morning.

They train as normal next week and have been given Christmas week off.

“They’ll be required to do their own weights and cardio work over Christmas,” the coach said.

“The squad’s been back in training for two weeks now, and I’ve been really impressed with the attitude shown.

“They are hitting all of their targets.”

McCormack’s high-tech computer, stolen when thieves broke in to from the Recreation Ground last month, has still not been recovered.
Specialised software, called Sports Performer, which breaks down the performance of each individual player during a game, was taken in the raid.

“It would be great to get it back, because if we don’t it will affect us when the games start,” he said.

“It’s really important for analysis, and if we don’t get it back we’ll have to look at other options.”

Haven’s special Christmas Pride of Five draw for a new SEAT Ibiza, sponsored by B&H Motors, will be held at noon on Saturday at the town’s Tesco store.

The 200 Club draws will be made in the King’s Arms, Hensingham, next Wednesday.

Last week’s Pride of Five £100 winners were: Mr and Mrs Harding, Mill Hill, ticket number 1,787; Ian Jones, Hillcrest, 2161; Anne McKain, Devon Road, Hensingham, 2,005; K Thompson, 755; Steven McCann, South View, Bransty, 20
