A break-in the morning of Dec. 1 left more than $25,000 worth of damage at the town-owned Sandwich Hollows Golf Course, according to police.

"There was a lot of damage," said Police Chief Michael Miller.

The vandals stole golf equipment from the golf shop and equipment from the Bayview Café catering business run by The Casual Gourmet. A computer was also stolen.

The thieves used blow torches to cut through three safes, stealing about $5,000 in cash. In addition, alarm wires were cut and motion sensors ripped from the walls, police said.

Because of the aging alarm system, the break-in wasn't noticed until the early morning and the cut wires didn't signal a break-in to the alarm company. Miller said the break could have occurred at any time during the night.

Miller said the thieves vandalized the building in addition to stealing items.

Police said newer alarms would have shown when wires were cut and given police a better idea of the time the break-in occurred
