CALIFORNIA JANITOR CAUGHT STEALING COMPUTER CHIPS FROM BUSINESSESThe Sentinel Online : Local NewsJanitor charged with theft

By Tiffany Pakkala, January 15, 2005

A janitor was charged with 69 counts each of theft and unlawful use of a computer Friday after he allegedly stole computer chips from an Upper Allen Township business while he worked.

Upper Allen police say William Magaro, 43, of Short Street, Harrisburg, stole 65 256-kilobyte computer chips between August and November while cleaning Delta Dental in the 5000 block of Ritter Road.

The chips, worth about $60 each, were reported missing by Delta Dental in November. Police say an investigation led them to suspect Magaro, who worked in close proximity to the business's computers while vacuuming floors.

His work time — four nights a week — matched the dates the chips disappeared, Officer Thomas Dombroski wrote in arrest documents.

Police say Magaro agreed to be interviewed Monday and he allegedly admitted to stealing the chips and selling them so he could buy crack cocaine.

Court documents say Magaro sold the chips for $10 to $25 each.

Magaro also allegedly confessed to stealing two memory chips and one microprocessor each from Turner Law Offices in Susquehanna Township and Community Behavioral Health Care Network in Lower Paxton Township. Both businesses confirmed those items were missing on Wednesday.

Magaro was arraigned before District Justice Charles Clement and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
