OMAHA, Neb. -- Two men have been arrested as suspects in at least eight burglaries throughout the city since 2003, and now officials are trying to return stolen goods to their owners.
Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said Thursday that investigators have recovered more than $50,000 worth of items. Aaron Lopez and Jason Mathews were arrested.
"Right now we're up to eight burglaries and we're on the way to solving three more beyond that," Dunning said.
Now the county is looking for the items' rightful owners. A room inside the Douglas County Sheriff's Office resembles an electronics store with a row of stolen items recovered in a burglary investigation.
"Many of the items that we have we don't know who they belong to," Dunning said.
Among the items is a commemorative quarter collection, a big-screen TV, several computers, DVDs, cordless tools, CDs, a Ford Expedition, speakers and more than $50,000 worth of other stolen goods.
"The proverbial pillow case full of stolen goods," Dunning said.
Investigators found the items in two different locations. One was the suspects' home on 100th Plaza, and the other was another apartment on north 104th Plaza.
"It was a pretty extravagant bachelor's pad with a lot of high-tech electronics," Dunning said.
The sheriff said most of the burglaries occurred in northwest Omaha. The items date to burglaries within the past few months and back to 2003, but specific dates weren't provided.
If you have been a victim of burglary and think any of the items are yours, call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at (402) 444-6454 to claim them.
