Laptop larcenies under investigation

The New Paltz Police Department is continuing its investigation into a string of larcenies of laptop computers stolen from local businesses in the Village and Town of New Paltz. Police are investigating several reports of a suspicious black male entering local businesses that began in June of 2004.

Based on several investigations conducted by police, it is believed the suspect is in his mid 30’s, approximately 5’10” tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds. He has been seen on several occasions wearing a black “pea” coat and black knit hat or baseball hat.

The suspect would enter local businesses in the hopes of removing a laptop computer left unattended on a desk and walk away unnoticed. If confronted, the suspect would tell the employee that he was interested in conducting business particular to wherever he was such as purchasing real estate if he was in a real estate office or wanting to make an investment if in a financial office.

Police are interested in talking with anyone who may have confronted this person while in their business. Police are also interested in talking with anyone who may have been approached by this person attempting to sell a laptop computer.
