7 Arrested After 13 Laptops Stolen From School

(CBS) LONG BEACH, Calif. Seven people, including a teacher, were arrested on suspicion of selling and accepting stolen school equipment, police said Saturday.

Thirteen laptop computers and a projector were allegedly stolen from Washington Middle School, 1450 Cedar Ave. Police went to the school Friday to assist Long Beach Unified Board of Education officers and school administrators to investigate the theft, according to a Long Beach Police statement.

The investigation led them to Polly Academy High School, 1545 Long Beach Blvd., where two of the computers were recovered. Polly Academy High teacher Rachelle Imson, 26, was arrested on suspicion of stolen property.

Several teenagers were arrested after a search of seven locations. An 11-year-old, a 13-year-old and two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary. Also arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary were Javier Santillanes, 18, and Chris Galloway, 19.

The investigation is still ongoing and has resulted in the recovery of 11 of the 13 computers.
