Burglars steal laptops, cash from church in Springs

By Tribune-Review Wednesday, June 22, 2011

State police in Somerset are seeking information about a burglary at a Mennonite church in Springs in which two laptop computers, a small amount of cash and a pickup and trailer were taken.
Police said the burglars entered the Springs Mennonite Church along Springs Road by breaking through a basement door. Once inside, the burglars entered the pastor's and secretary's office, where the two computers were removed, police reported.
The incident occurred between 10 p.m. Monday and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
About $60 in cash and a parish directory were removed from the offices. Police said the burglars then stole a Ford F-250 truck and attached trailer that was parked in the rear of the church.
The truck and trailer were later recovered several miles away along River Road in Garrett County, Md.
State police said a gray baseball cap was discovered at the scene and is undergoing forensic analysis.
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call state police at 814-445-4104.
