Burglar stole goods using shopping trolley

A BURGLAR stole electrical goods worth thousands of pounds, using a shopping trolley to escape with them.

David Patience, 35, then called a taxi, into which he loaded his haul.

Southampton Crown Court heard how Patience, of no fixed abode, and an accomplice targeted the block of businesses in MillbrookRoad West, Southampton in January.

The pair broke in and stole various electrical items, including laptops and computers, totalling more than £7,000.

When police were called to the scene, one of the officers recognised Patience from the CCTV footage and they tracked him down to an address in St Mary’s, where they found him and his accomplice, and recovered most of the stolen property.

Prosecutor Christopher Wing told the court how only a laptop and a pay phone containing about £35 was missing.

Patience admitted six counts of burglary and breaching a conditional discharge he was given for shoplifting.

In mitigation Andy Houston said the defendant had a longstanding drug addiction but that on his release he was determined to kick his habit with the help of his mum.

Recorder Mercer jailed Patience for ten months.
