Charity to rescue as raiders plunder pupils’ computers

A CHARITY came to the rescue after raiders stole computers fromMonkwick Infants’ School and Nursery, in Colchester.

When the school’s insurance company would not pay for replacements, King Coel’s Kittens, who organise the annual fireworks display at Colchester’s Castle Park, stepped in.

The group’s Judy Alden said: “It was really sad. They ended up without the laptops so I thought ‘maybe we can help’.

“We managed to get seven laptops. They are not new and we paid about £1,000, but we are pleased to be able to help the children.”

Headteacher Claire Holmes said the school and nursery were grateful to the charity. She said: “We were pretty sure the burglary was by someone who knew where the computer suite was.

“It is doubly distressing to think it could have been someone from our community.

“We were delighted when King Coel’s Kittens offered to help. They have taken such trouble to get us the right things. The laptops are smashing for our little ones.”
