School officials at rural Oakview School are trying to make up for the theft of six computers last week.

Security cameras caught two suspects entering the campus south east of Galt.  Soon after, they cased several classrooms for loot before breaking the glass on the doors to open them.

They were riding a quad, which they used to take six computers in a matter of minutes. The alarm went off but the campus is surrounded by cornfields and vineyards. The iMac computers were taken without their power cords. The staff had to move computers around for the first day of school.

"We borrowed computers from the learning center.  We only have one left in there, so they're going to have to make due until we can replace them," said Boone.

The computers are used every day by the students and were among 40 purchased just last year by the 400 student K-8 school.

"We finally start to advance our technology a little bit and then something like this happens," said Boone.

Parents have been supportive and have offered money to replace the computers.

Insurance will cover the theft, but it will take some time. In the meantime, a $500 reward has been offered to catch the thieves and recover the computers because there are indications that the crooks are from the area.

"We mainly want to know who did this and make sure it doesn't happen again," said Boone.

'They smashed in here, reached down and opened the door," said Beverly Boone, Oakview principal and superintendent of the one school district.
