Eastchester detectives probe jewelry and computer burglary

EASTCHESTER --— Burglars broke into a first-floor cooperative apartment at Interlaken Gardens and stole over $45,000 worth of jewelry and three computers, Eastchester police said today.

Taken during the early Sunday morning heist was a $35,000 wedding engagement ring, numerous men and women watches, two Dell laptop computers and an iPad, Eastchester Detective Sgt. George Barletta said.

The burglars, at least three of them, also stole the 33-year-old cooperative owner's car keys and removed expensive parts from his BMW, which was parked outside the California Road home.

A neighbor of the victim spotted the three men, all wearing t-shirts and jeans, in the BMW at 5 a.m. Sunday and scared them off after yelling at them, Sgt. Barletta said.

The neighbor called Eastchester police to report the burglary. By the time Eastchester police arrived the suspects had escaped, Sgt. Barletta said.

The cooperative is owned by a couple who were away from their home between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and when the burglary happened, Barletta said.

Police believe the suspects entered the house through an open first floor window.
