Computers stolen from Leeds high school

Thieves broke into a Leeds school and stole laptops just days before the start of the new term.

Suspects have taken 16 computers from St Mary’s Catholic High School, in Menston, after using a crowbar to snap the hinges off a window on the school roof.

Thieves then broke into a cabinet containing the school’s laptops.

The YEP understands that the computers were taken during two break-ins over the weekend.

Headteacher Robert Pritchard said: “It is sad that someone felt the need to break into the school just before the new term starts and take a number of items of electrical equipment.

“We are working with the police to try and recover the items, and will in the meantime concentrate on welcoming back all our students.”

Police are appealing for any information or witnesses to come forward to help them with their investigations.

Insp Richard Coldwell from the Aireborough and Wharfedale NPT said: “We’re appealing for anyone who knows who has committed this offence or anyone who might be selling laptops in the community to come forward.”
