Liberia: Public Agenda Newspaper Burglarized - Cash, Computers, Others Stolen

The offices of the Public Agenda Newspaper located at the intersection of Carey & Gurley Streets have been burglarized once again by unknown individuals, the Paper's Editor Dominic Farley said yesterday.

The burglary took place on the night of December 17, 2012.

Between 2006 and 2008, the Public Agenda suffered sustained attacks and series of burglaries, an attempt that nearly paralyzed the operations of the paper during those critical years, a release said.

The Public Agenda, viewed in many quarters as a critical media outlet on the Liberian media landscape, has been a victim of what could be described as sustained and coordinated attacks on its premises by unknown individuals.

The Management in a release issued on December 18, 2012 disclosed that six laptops, two Lone Star internet modems, one black computer bag and one mobile phone valued at about five thousand, six hundred, fifty five United States Dollars (US$5,655.00) and cash two thousand, three hundred ninety Liberian dollars (L$2.390), were amongst items and cash stolen.

Of the number of laptops stolen, three were Toshiba equipment donated by IREX and USAID in 2011.

According to the Management, the action of the burglars has, amongst other things adversely affected the Wednesday production of the paper.

The matter has already been reported to the landlord and the Liberia National Police. It is our hope that the suspects will be apprehended and brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Management says it regrets the incontinence caused by this latest negative development and extends an apology to its many clients and the reading public.

However, we are not deterred by these attacks; we want to assure the Liberian people and our online readers that the paper would remain resolute and committed to the cause of professional journalism and would not be carried away by the caprices of the time come what may.
