More than $25,000 worth of electrical tools, computers and building items have been stolen from a small rural school near Marton.
South Makirikiri School, south east of Marton, was broken into sometime between November 30 and December 3.
A storage unit containing construction tools at the school had about $20,000 worth of electrical tools and building items taken.
The school building was also burgled, and four Apple laptop computers, worth $6000, were stolen from one classroom.
The 158 pupils at the school use the computers for work, and the stolen laptops contained their saved work.
An extension building project at the school has been delayed while the stolen items are replaced.
Marton Sergeant Peter Wood said the laptops had no personal information on them but the childrens' work files could not be replaced.
Mr Wood said some of the stolen property has been recovered at a Marton address.
A 40-year-old male and a 36 year-old female have been charged with burglary.
Police have received information about some of the outstanding stolen items being sold as far away as Wellington.
Items still being looked for include battery drills, skill saws, Ramset guns, grinders, and a laser level.
Most of the items are engraved with either a number or with builders initials.
An air conditioning unit from a heat pump was taken along with a large roll of electrical wiring. Two of the Apple laptops are also still outstanding.
