MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) - Mobile Police said 25 tablet computers were taken from B.C. Rain High School by a group of students, but no arrests have been made. The theft was originally reported last Friday.
Investigators said eleven of the Kindle Fire tablets have since been returned. A Mobile Police spokesperson told Local 15 News that students involved were given until Wednesday to return the tablets in lieu of facing criminal charges.
Authorities said they have been lenient with the students involved because some of them were acting out of desperation. Police said one student planned to trade a tablet for some pants his parents would not buy for him and another gifted a tablet to his step-brother as a Christmas present.
The Mobile County School District is looking into the matter, but there is no word as to what, if any, punishment will be handed down by the school.
Police said the investigation is continuing, and there will be a meeting with more B.C. Rain parents and students Thursday morning.
