TEXAS COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM UNIVERSITIESKLTV 7 Tyler-Longview-Jacksonville, TX: Thousands taken in string of theftsBROWNSVILLE, Texas Thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment has been stolen from university campuses in south central Texas in the past few months.

Police say the equipment was sometimes hauled out of campus buildings hidden in a backpack.

Stolen items include video projectors, desktop computers and laptops and are valued at almost 24-thousand dollars.

John Cordoza is police chief at the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College.

He says authorities have issued search warrants for a former employee of the university in connection with one of the thefts.

Authorities at St. Edwards University, the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University want to question another person about more than two dozen computer thefts.

Cordoza says most of the theft at the Southmost campus took place in a building where professors have offices.
