January 19 - Four people have been arrested in connection with last month’s theft of video and computer components from a staging area for the new North Tower addition to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, but police are still looking for the computers, TV sets and DVD players that were stolen.
Police took a report Dec. 16 on the burglary, which occurred in a staging area near the hospital’s cancer treatment center some time in the previous two weeks.
Items taken, valued at almost $8,000, included a dozen new Philips DVD/VCR recorders, five new HP computers, six new HP 17-inch monitors, one new HP 15-inch monitor, two 19-inch color TVs and a rolling utility cart. The monitors, computers and DVD players were new and still in their boxes.
St. Charles (www.scmc.org) offered a $500 reward for anyone providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime.
The next day, on Dec. 17, police received information that led to the extensive investigation of and later arrests of three men and a woman in the case, as well as the recovery of some of the property, said Sgt. John Gautney.
Daniel Ira Elliott, 41, a Bend-area transient, was arrested Jan. 3 and charged with second-degree burglary. Last Friday, Annabelle Lee Unruh, 40, also a Bend-area transient; David Keith Hanegraaf, 26, of Redmond, and Thomas Dean Christensen, 41, a Bend-area resident, were located and arrested.
Elliott was being held Wednesday at the Deschutes County Jail on the burglary charge and a no-bail hold for parole violation. Unruh, charged with second-degree burglary, remained jailed on $25,000 bail. Hanegraaf, also charged with second-degree burglary, no longer was in custody, the jail officer said. Christensen, facing a first-degree theft charge, was held on $10,000 bail.
As the investigation continues, Gautney said anyone with information about any of the DVD players, computers or TV sets is asked to call Det. Paul Kansky at 322-2985.
Hospital spokesman Todd Sprague said Wednesday, “It appears that someone may be eligible for the reward, but that won't be finally determined until the ‘arrest and conviction’ stage of the process is completed.”
