THOUSANDS of pounds worth of computers have been stolen in a raid on a library.
Burglars plundered 22 computers worth £10,000 from the Tate Library, in Streatham High Road.
Lambeth council has already replaced the stolen PCs with new ones at a cost of £10,000.
Detectives from Streatham CID are investigating the break-in which happened on Friday night.
A council spokeswoman said that Streatham Library staff were "disgusted" by the burglary.
"It is awful that these opportunists have stolen something that is such a valuable community asset," she said.
"They took every computer from the internet suite which has caused the library problems.
"We have had to spend £10,000 replacing the computers and have had to do it straight away because they are always in demand. We don't believe the users should suffer because of this."
The spokeswoman said the council had stepped up security since the raid and introduced a full-time security guard.
The Tate Library was included in a borough wide revamp in July last year when councillors pledged £1.1m to improve facilities.
