Homeless day shelter robbed of computers and food
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A day shelter that helps the homeless in Kennewick now needs some help themselves.
Employees say when they came in Monday morning, someone broke in and stole hundreds of dollars worth of equipment and supplies.
Shattered glass was over the ground and a large rock left over. Inside the shelter, three laptops and some food was missing.
"We shook our heads in grief that we just couldn't believe that somebody would do this to us," says John Cloud, a client who was one of the first people to find the damage.
The shelter is a temporary place for homeless people to relax, clean themselves up, and get information online. Shelter director, Steve Gaulke says this puts them in an unusual spot, "You have to ask for some help, and that's sort of awkward for us because usually were the ones providing the assistance to people," explains Gaulke.
Police are investigating what actually happened. Gaulke adds he doesn't think the person or person's responsible ever used the facility. He says they're looking at possible changes to prevent future thefts.
