FARMINGTON — Four computers were stolen this weekend from Central Primary School in Bloomfield.
The school is missing two desktop computers and two laptop computers valued at about $3,000, Bloomfield police Sgt. Marlyn Wyatt said.
The missing computers were reported to police Monday morning and may have been taken sometime during the weekend, he said.
The laptops were issued to teachers who kept the computers in the school and the desktop computers were taken from the library, said Jennifer Johns, the assistant principal.
Central Primary has 650 students in first through third grades.
One of the main functions of the computers in the library was for accelerated reader tests, Johns said. Accelerated reader is a program where students read stories and then take tests on the computers.
The laptops were taken from other rooms in the school, Wyatt said.
The missing laptops will affect student curriculum because teachers often plug their computers into monitors and teach lessons with them, Johns said.
"The computer lab is where students do more (computer) work and they were not hit," Johns said.
Police were not sure how the burglars gained access to the school.
Police had not found signs of forced injury by Monday evening, Wyatt said.
Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call Bloomfield police at 505-632-6342 or San Juan County Crime Stoppers at 1-505-334-8477 where callers can remain anonymous
