INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY COMPUTER THEFT FROM OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS UPDATEIndiana Statesman - Public Safety looks into recent computer theftsISU's Public Safety department doesn't have any new information on the computer thefts that occurred on the weekend of March 13 and 14.
Approximately $10,000 worth of computer equipment was stolen from the Office of Admissions.
In an earlier interview, office of Admissions Director Ron Brown said the admissions office didn't lose any valuable information.
He said the majority of documents saved on the hard drives were interoffice documents such as e-mail communications and memos.
Without the proper passwords and login information, the perpetrators wouldn't likely be able to access the harddrive anyway, Brown said.
This adds to a number of computers recently stolen throughout campus, but Director of Public Safety Bill Mercier said he would have to do some research to get concrete numbers.
He said Public Safety is still investigating leads it had before.
"We have a couple of people we're interested in looking at and we continue to be looking at those folks," Mercier said.
A man previously described on the Public Safety Web site as dressing as a janitor and being a suspect isn't believed to have been involved in the theft from the Office of Admissions, Mercier said.
Mercier said he believes multiple people may be involved in the thefts.
Public Safety is encouraging people to keep doors locked and has stepped up patrols across ISU to prevent future thefts.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to Public Safety at ext. 5555 or 911
