A stolen computer valued at R35 000 was recovered after the owner of a second-hand shop in Pinetown became suspicious when the computer was brought in for re-sale.

Acting on a tip-off from Bonny Olivier, Pinetown police staked out the shop, Ethekweni Bargains, and arrested one suspect when he came in to collect money for the computer yesterday.

Olivier, owner of the business, became suspicious when a man brought in an Apple Mac and offered to sell it to her for R2 500.

'I told the man to come back later because I had to test the computer to see if it was working. As soon as he left I managed to activate the software and found details of the owner's son.

'I managed to get hold of him and he came in and identified the computer,' said Olivier.

'The suspect came in to collect the money just before the store closed and he was arrested by the police. He was detained at Pinetown police station,' said Capt Priscilla Naidu, communications officer at Pinetown police station.

'I am very happy that my computer and hi-fi were recovered. I was away in Germany and only got back at the weekend and realised my house had been broken into,' said Frank Fielers, owner of the computer"
