INDIA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM SCHOOLAt Aurobindo, applicants on their own : HindustanTimes.comAt Aurobindo, applicants on their own

WHILE UNIVERSITY authorities continue to grapple with the never-ending surge of students, Aurobindo College has decided to play it easy. Unfortunately the college's ease has left many students bitter. Ten days after the University opened doors for admissions, this college is yet to print its prospectus and admission form.

It's been fruitless trip for many who returned empty handed since there was no information on the college and no official to help them with some either. The college principal and administrative officer are on leave and there is nobody officiating in their absence. The teaching staff is also missing since it's the summer break.

When contacted, principal Dr Hari Om said that the college is getting the prospectus and forms printed as early as possible. Ironically, the last date for accepting application forms is June 16. Other college officials say it will be ready within the next few days.

While Om blames his absence on the summer break, his staff was quick to point out the fact that the principal has been missing in action for the last ten days.

Problems here are nothing new. Lack of drinking water, ill-equipped laboratories, inadequate teaching staff, the list is endless. Till some time back, the college did not even have proper blackboards for its 35 classrooms. There is a computer centre minus computers. Last year, some computers were stolen from the college that was never reported, said a member.
"Till some time back, there was not a single dustbin in the college and the waste had to be dumped outside the building," said governing body treasurer Anish Gandhi. But those were past mistakes. The college authorities are planning a major revamp this year and some work is already underway. "We hope to get things ready by July 15 for the new session," said Gandhi.

The admission process in Delhi University began on June 1. Since then hundreds of students, some of whom are from other states, have been thronging DU. Officials said that till now they have not heard of any major complaints from applicants.
