School theft

A break-in at Centennial School sometime Tuesday netted thieves five computer monitors -- but they were likely so damaged as to be worthless.
According to Coquitlam RCMP, the theft occurred between 2 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., which was when the alarm was activated. Bob Janzen, manager of financial information, said all computers are anchored to work surfaces and the monitors likely destroyed in the removal process. He also said that personal information cannot be accessed by the theft of monitors, even if hard drives are taken.Computers were stolen from the school board office in September, 2004, causing fear that personal information may have been compromised. Although thousands of employees were forced to change their banking arrangements, it was determined that no information was compromised.
Dave Ginter, president of CUPE 561 which represents school district operating staff, the school is being substantially renovated and there may have been some gap in the security system. If there were any weaknesses, they have been corrected,' he said"
