INDIA GOVERNMENT AGENCY COMPUTER THEFT CRIME SOLVEDPolice claim to solve Vidhan Bhawan theftPolice claim to solve Vidhan Bhawan theft

Express News Service

Lucknow, July 4: THE city police on Monday claimed to have solved the Vidhan Bhawan theft case by arresting three persons. The arrested persons were identified as Vinod, a resident of Hussainganj, Mohammad Shafiq, a resident of Hussainganj and Shamim, a resident of Nishatganj.

The police recovered all the stolen items from their possession just before they were planning to sell them off in the market. Earlier, on May 29, the locks on the three rooms of special secretarities and three other rooms on the office premises of Agriculture Production Commissioiner (APC) were found to be broken.

The FIR lodged on the same day stated that a computer set, a stablizer, an exhaust fan and some electrical items were missing from the rooms. However, senior cops did not rule out the theft of important documents, too.

To investigate the matter, a committee, led by APC Navin Chanda Bajpai and ADG Law and Order, Archarya Palanivel was formed to probe the reasons behind the security lapses and the exact motive behind the theft. The FIR stated that the incident came to light after the security guard, deputed inside the Vidhan Bhawan building, spotted the locks of the rooms to be broken.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here today, SSP Navniet Seikera said Vinod and his two friends, Sanbar and Irshad, who are still on the run, jumped inside the Vidhan Bhawan building in the early hours of May 29 and decamped with the recovered items. Seikera said the two entered the Vidhan Bhawan from Gate Number 10 and broke the locks of the six rooms.

Seikera said the police, acting on a tip-off, had arrested Vinod, who has accepted during interrogation that he had committed the crime along with two of his friends. Vinod said he used a troley to carry the stolen items to a safe place.

Meanwhile, Seikera added that Shafiq and Shamim were arrested on charges of keeping the stolen goods and making arragements for selling them in the market
