CENTRAL KENTUCKY BUREAU

NICHOLASVILLE - One adult and 11 juveniles have been charged in connection with the July 17 theft of computers and other property from East Jessamine High School, police said. More arrests and charges may be coming.

Doug Stamper, 18, of Nicholasville was charged Friday with receiving stolen property over $300. Additional charges are pending, said Detective John Bourne of the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.

The juveniles, whose identities were not released, range in age from 11 to 16. All were males except one girl who is an East Jessamine cheerleader, Bourne said. They were charged with burglary and receiving stolen property and will also face charges of obscuring the identity of

a machine.

"That means taking off the serial numbers," Bourne said. In some cases, the stolen computers were sold to others.

About a dozen computers were recovered at five or six homes on Friday after police received a tip. Other property reported stolen included personal message devices, other computer-related items, digital cameras and band uniforms.

The burglars are believed to have walked through a construction area where more rooms are being added onto the west side of East Jessamine and then entered the finished part of the school through an unlocked door, Bourne said.

Once inside, they broke interior classroom windows to get to the computers and other property, Bourne said.

Bourne said the school was burglarized a second time a few days after July 17.

Stamper was released yesterday from the Jessamine County jail on 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Jessamine District Court.
