UK COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM CARLISLE UNITEDNews & Star
Computers stolen at Carlisle United
Published on 04/07/2005

COMPUTERS containing confidential details about Carlisle United players have been stolen from Brunton Park.

The two laptops were taken during a break-in at the club’s offices between 3.30pm yesterday and 8am today.

Nothing else was stolen in the raid, apart from a silver Cumberland Cup winner’s medal, which dates back decades, and a small amount of cash.

Details on what information is held on the computer have not been disclosed, but United’s business operations manager George Thomson (CORR) described it as “confidential”.

He said: “We have back-up copies of this information, but this is not something we want out in the public domain for obvious reasons.”

The thieves left little damage, apart from pulling out some computer cabling.

Mr Thomson fears thieves may have capitalised on the number of still empty flood-damaged houses surrounding the ground in Warwick Road to enter the ground without rousing suspicion.

He added: “The club is in a fairly quiet area and these people have been opportunist, as they have been against other local residents. It is pathetic.”

It is not known what the Cumberland Cup medal is valued at, but Mr Thomson said it was of more sentimental worth.

Footage from CCTV cameras erected around Brunton Park is now being examined to try and trace the thieves.

Police are appealing for information. Witnesses can contact officers on 01228 528191.
