CHILDREN'S toys and bikes have been stolen from a nursery in a series of break-ins that have taken place over the past six months.

Pavilion Pre-School nursery in Park View Road, Down Lane Park, Tottenham, has been a constant target for thieves who, as well as toys, have helped themselves to computer equipment, money and whatever else they can lay their hands on.

A member of staff, who did not want to be named, said the break-ins happen about three times a year on average.

A new building was opened at the nursery in June and within a week it had been broken into. Bars were pulled off the windows and security railings outside did little to keep the intruders out, who helped themselves to the contents of the nursery.

Just four weeks before there was another break-in, when an electric saw was used by burglars to cut the door in half.

The same member of staff said: "It's very worrying. On the Monday you are always wondering if everything is alright. We close the place properly but they come in whatever way they can.

"We are in the middle of the park and it's dark at night. The road is about 100 metres away and nothing overlooks us. Kids come into the park in the evenings.

"As soon as it starts getting warmer the burglaries start. It's been happening for years."

Alinah Roberts, of The Avenue, Tottenham, whose three-year-old daughter attends the nursery, said: "I think it's ridiculous and I'm deeply upset that these people keep targeting a nursery. It's happened three times in the past six months. They are trying to raise money to help children and I can't believe these people keep breaking in
