CREDANT Technologies Providing Beacon of Hope Amidst Outbreak of Breaches of Sensitive Data in Corporate World

DALLAS, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A laptop containing the names and credit card numbers of 80,000 U.S. Department of Justice workers is stolen from Omega World Travel. A thief walks into a University of California, Berkeley office and swipes a laptop that contains the personal information of 100,000 alumni, graduate students and past applicants. Two laptop computers with confidential medical information and social security numbers on 185,000 people are taken from behind locked doors at the administrative offices of the San Jose Medical group.

According to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, 45 highly publicized data breaches such as these have been reported in the United States. Over a year's time? Over two year's time?

Try 120 days.

"The rash of data breaches on both the corporate and government levels has brought a great deal of panic to corporate boardrooms," said CREDANT Technologies President and CEO Bob Heard. "No one wants to be the next headline or 'cautionary tale' written or blogged about for the entire world to see."

While the security risk of information stored on notebook computers is the most obvious, they are not the only mobile devices that should cause concern. With the capabilities of smartphones, PDAs and other handheld computers increasing exponentially, organizations no longer can ignore the heightened security risk any mobile device with access to their network or email system presents. Adequate security begins with user authentication, continues with encryption on the devices themselves and must extend to any kind of USB or external hard drive or storage medium that might contain sensitive information.

"Clearly, these recent breaches are only the beginning of what will be considered a culturally defining event in our rapidly developing mobile age," said Heard. "As the number of nationwide data breaches increases and government mandates on data security become more specific and urgent, protecting sensitive corporate information should be the top priority of each company from New York to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. It's no longer a matter of whether they should be protected, but rather, how well."

CREDANT Technologies is the market leader in mobile data security, allowing an organization to control and defend the sensitive data it holds dear. CREDANT Mobile Guardian allows a corporation to comply with recent government regulatory requirements such as Gramm-Leach-Biley, California Senate Bill 1386 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

"While you can't put a price on peace of mind, the security software available is not an expense that can be ignored when you consider what's at stake," said Heard. "Our solution takes nightmare scenarios out of the equation and allows corporations to focus on their normal business. CREDANT is committed to making security affordable and manageable for all organizations. The need is just too great."
