Thieves left behind a mess in Menomonie.
School custodians come back after the holiday weekend to a crime scene. Custodians at River Heights Elementary in Menomonie found a broken window and thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment had been stolen when they came in on Tuesday. Custodian Mike Hayden knew something wasn't right. 'There was a garbage can by the big garbage can and there was a comptuer cart with something laying on the ground,' says Hayden. 'It wasn't, it shouldn't have been there.' Mike realized his computer had been stolen along with all of the school's laptops. About $22,000 worth of computers and equipment is gone. Police say something may have stopped the thieves from finishing the job because officers found equipment stashed in garbage cans. It looks like those were going to be taken, as well. Police have gathered fingerprints, but are not optimistic they'll recover the equipment. If you saw anything suspicious over the holiday weekend, police would like you to give them a call. "
