DURHAM -- Durham County sheriff's officials served a search warrant on Tuesday at a Wake Forest house and seized thousands of dollars of property stolen from IBM.
"IBM security learned some people were selling stolen laptops on eBay," Detective Tom Malone said. "We verified some information off of eBay and found out the person living in that house was a former IBM employee."
Malone said charges are pending against the former employee, who had been fired from the Research Triangle Park company about two weeks ago.
Deputies served the search warrant at 1612 Forest Road around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Malone said.
They discovered more than $20,000 worth of property that had been stolen from IBM, according to an affidavit. The property included three laptops, four LCD projectors, personal digital assistants, label makers, hard drives and other removable drives for computers.
"I want to say [the property] has been on eBay for at least six months, but until I do a search warrant on the eBay records, I won't know for sure," Malone said.
Malone said he would probably charge the man on Monday
