Someone burglarized the Bikers Against Statewide Hunger food bank’s warehouse and office in Parkland over the weekend, taking money and the organization’s computer.
The computer contained a database that the organization used to track the more than 1,200 people who frequent the food bank each month, said Vickie Houk, food bank administrator. State and federal authorities require the food bank to submit information from the database to receive grant money, which funds the organization’s day-to-day operations, she said.

“Without those reports, they don’t want to give you any money,” Houk said.

In addition to the computer, thieves took a donation jar that contained some loose change and a cash box that contained about $50 from the food bank, located at 755 108th St. S., she said. A worker discovered the items missing Sunday at about 6 p.m., Houk said.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the burglary, said spokesman Ed Troyer. Deputies have no suspects, but did take some evidence from the food bank, he said.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959
