Customer information stolen from Stockton bank

Press staff report

Published on Friday, September 9, 2005, in the Tracy Press.

Pacific State Bank administrative bank offices in Stockton recently sent out a letter warning to its thousands of customers of a possible breach in security.

Someone broke into the bank Aug. 19 and stolen three computers that may contain sensitive customer information the letter said.

“The bank has taken extra steps to beef up our onsite security with added lighting and additional security cameras as a deterrent,”

Pacific President Steven A. Rosso wrote. “We recommend that you remain vigilant over the next 12 to 24 months, and to promptly report any suspected identity theft incidents to Pacific State Bank.”

Rosso recommended that customers place a fraud alert on their credit file by calling one of the three credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and Trans Union.

There had been no reports of identity theft associated with crime as of Thursday, Pacific Chief Financial Officer JoAnne Roberts said.

The offices on West March Lane were broken into around 12:45 a.m.

Stockton Police spokesman Pete Smith said officers are still investigating the crime.

“It is a concern for us any time there’s a possibility that an individual’s personal information may be compromised,” he said.

Roberts added that the computers were password protected.

Pacific has branches in Tracy, Stockton, Angels Camp, Groveland and Modesto
