Investigator James Dollar said that at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, someone broke into the computer lab at the high school, which is located at 1301 E. College St.
Dollar said several items, which he did not specify, were taken from the computer lab. In addition, another building near the school’s computer lab was broken into and a fire extinguisher was discharged inside, Dollar said.
On Tuesday morning, Dollar and Investigator Mark Esquivel worked with school resource officers on the burglary investigation. Using video taken from a surveillance camera at the school, one of the officers identified one of the suspects as a 13-year-old male student. Investigators spoke with the student’s mother, who said she believed her son and two other males, aged 15 and 16, were pictured on the video taken earlier that morning.
Under questioning by BPS investigators, the three juvenile students confessed to the burglary and vandalism of the building. Further investigation led BPS officers to suspect James Aaron Chaney, 18, of 908 Anderson St., Bainbridge, of driving the younger students to the high school, storing the stolen property in his car and later dumping it in a wooded area.
Dollar said the stolen property was recovered and said all four teens would be charged with burglary and interference with government property.
