Incident Marks Third Act Of Vandalism Against Campaign

POSTED: 3:57 pm EDT September 8, 2005

DETROIT -- Some files containing information on volunteers were stolen in a break-in at a campaign office for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on Detroit's west side.

Campaign workers said the files -- which contained names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of volunteers -- along with other items inside the office on Michigan Avenue and Livernois were discovered stolen on Tuesday.

"They got a campaign computer along with a combination fax-copier-printer, along with our central campaign file, containing a lot of pretty valuable information," said Eddie McDonald, campaign manager.

McDonald said the incident was suspicious because the culprits left behind other computers and valuable items, and only took campaign-related material.

The campaign for Freman Hendrix, Kilpatrick's opponent in the upcoming November election, has reportedly denied any involvement in the break-in. Local 4 attempted to contact the campaign, but has yet to receive a response.

The incident was the third act of vandalism against the Kilpatrick campaign in the past two months.
