ONTARIO COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM COUNTY OFFICESThe Orangeville Banner: Computers stolen from county officesComputers stolen from county offices

PETER CRISCIONE, Banner Staff Writer

Computers and other equipment were taken from Dufferin County offices, following a robbery at the Zina Street building last weekend.

"The break and enter occurred sometime over the weekend," says Const. Scott Davis of Orangeville Police. "Suspects broke into the treasury department and some computers were taken. We have no suspects at this time."

Davis says persons entered the building through a window facing Zina Street, located on the ground level. Except for minor damage to the window the thieves left very little clues behind, he says.

County staff showing up for work Monday morning were turned away by police, as officers conducted their investigations.

Dufferin CAO Linda Dean says employees in the treasury department returned to work on Tuesday.

"When staff arrived on Monday they found the windows open and their computers gone," Dean told The Banner, noting that four computers were taken. "They pried the windows open, and then came in.

"It's certainly a huge inconvenience, it's going to put staff behind in terms of getting things done at this point until we get the new computers."

A dollar value for the missing equipment is not yet known.
