An Irwin man faces criminal charges in connection with a burglary and theft earlier this month at Greensburg Central Catholic High School in Carbon, Hempfield Township.
Philip John Hanyak, 18, of 1415 Plymouth Drive, will face charges of criminal conspiracy, burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.

According to an affidavit, Hanyak told state troopers that he and a juvenile were out driving at 5:15 a.m. Aug. 6 when they decided to break into the school.

Police said Hanyak tossed a rock through a window so he could open it and allow the juvenile to climb into the building. The juvenile then let Hanyak inside through a back door.

The pair are accused of taking more than $20,000 worth of electronics from offices and classrooms, including laptop computers, monitors, a projector, two-way radios and a big screen television.

Police allege the two stored most of the equipment in Hanyak's vehicle for several days, then moved the items to a vacant apartment in Building G at the Villages of Easton in Irwin.

Police recovered most of the stolen items from the apartment, according to the affidavit. The juvenile later turned over to police a pair of two-way radios taken during the burglary.

Trooper Ray Andrekanic, who filed the criminal charges before Magisterial District Judge Mark Mansour, of Hempfield Township, could not be reached for comment.

In an earlier interview, Lt. James Fulmer, head of the state police crime unit for Troop A at Greensburg, said the unidentified juvenile likely will be prosecuted in juvenile court. He also said the two teenagers began selling some of the stolen electronics before most of the items were recovered.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Hanyak. He faces a preliminary arraignment and hearing before Mansour.
