MOREHEAD CITY - A Morehead City man faces a long list of criminal charges following an investigation that has tied him to multiple business break-ins in the western Morehead City area.

Jack Sizemore, 38, Dorcas Drive, Morehead City, was arrested Monday by the Carteret County Sheriff's Department and Morehead City Police Department on charges of breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen property, said Sheriff's Department detective Jason Wank.

Sizemore was initially charged Monday with 11 counts of each offense, with four issued by the Sheriff's Department and another seven counts issued by Morehead City police.

An additional five counts were added Tuesday by Sheriff's Department detective Lonnie Ward, he said.

The Sheriff's Department and Morehead City police have been working together on the case since July when similar break-ins began occurring in the same area along U.S. 70, said Don Miller of the Morehead City Police Department.

In each case, he said, the suspect was entering businesses after hours and apparently making a quick exit with whatever miscellaneous cash or valuable items he could take with him.

"Every time it was obvious he was going in real quick and just grabbing stuff," Miller said.

Along with various amounts of cash, the stolen items included laptop computers, cell phones and food items.

While 16 counts of breaking and entering had been filed, there were some cases where the same business was broken into twice.

Sizemore was identified as a suspect after an Oct. 22 break-in of the Coastal Community Action Head Start building, where a cell phone and food items were stolen, Wank said.

Sizemore allegedly used the stolen phone to call his girlfriend at his residence, and investigators were able to trace the call to him. Some of the stolen items were then located at the residence, Wank said.

During questioning, investigators were also able to link him to the other break-ins as well.

Miller said the Morehead City Police Department has six or seven similar break-ins from the same area that it is continuing to investigate, but no charges have been filed at this time.
