The Independent Democrats in KwaZulu-Natal suspect they have been the victims of an act of political sabotage after their Durban offices were broken into and a computer hard drive was stolen.
The party said that only the office of Simo Dladla, the Chairman of the ID Youth League in the province, had goods taken from it.
Dladla was the first to find on Tuesday morning that the offices in Albany Grove had been burgled.
He said that crucial information, such as the ID's election strategy for the coming local government elections and all the data on the party's membership in the province, was on his hard drive.
He called for anyone with information on the location of the hard drive to contact the party.
"When I came to the offices in the morning, I noticed the door was open," Dladla said.
"Only once I entered did I realise that it was actually broken. I looked in the direction of my office from the reception area and saw that it was open and I remembered locking it the day before," he said.
"I noticed that my hard drive, a printer, a camera and a radio were missing. I looked at the other offices and found that only mine had been broken into.
"All the information from our national offices comes straight to me and I filter it out. All the provincial information for the ID is stored on my computer," said Dladla.
Police spokesperson Michael Read said that a case of housebreaking had been opened. Dladla appealed to anyone with information to telephone him at 084 472 4577
