At least 19 people are scheduled to appear in court in Bloemfontein today following the theft of computer equipment during burglaries at the offices of the Motheo District Municipality and the department of tourism last week.
Harry Nagel, a Southern Free State police inspector, said yesterday that among them was a shop owner who would face a charge of receiving stolen goods. The other 18 face charges of housebreaking and theft.
They were all arrested during a special police operation at the weekend, said Nagel. 'They first sent in people to overpower security guards, then a team came in and broke down doors,' he said.
Meanwhile police have recovered 27 hard drives, six laptop computers and a CD-Rom. They also confiscated three vehicles, a 9mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition. - Sapa"
