MAUD, Texas-A local man has been arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries at businesses and schools along state Highway 8 and U.S. Highway 67.

James Michael Manning, 21, was taken into custody about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at his home, according to a report from the Bowie County Sheriff's Department.

A vast majority of the stolen property, including money, laptop computers, knives and cigarettes, allegedly was found at his home.

Manning faces burglary of a building charges and is being held in the Bowie County Correctional Center with bail set at $100,000.

Lt. Larry Parker and investigators Brent Caudle and Jerl Palmore investigated the reported burglary incidents.

Many Maud business owners discovered their businesses had been broken into overnight when they arrived at work on the morning of Sept. 30.

Alamo Supply, Flamboyant Designs, Perry's Flowers, TJ's Shell Station and Maud elementary and middle schools, all on state Highway 8, were burglarized along with Maud Bait and Tackle and Icehouse Antiques, which sit beside each other on U.S. Highway 67.

At many of the businesses, investigators believe rocks were used to break through the windows. In most cases, computers sitting near the windows were stolen.

At one business, a piece of concrete was thrown through the door and a cash box and laptop were taken.
